A female deer gives birth to a young deer named Bambi, who is presented to the other woodland animals. As Bambi grows up, he befriends a rabbit named Thumper and a skunk named Flower. Bambi also encounters a young fawn named Faline. When a herd of deers arrive, Bambi meets his father, the Great Prince of the Forest. The herd unexpectedly flee into the forest and Bambi is left in the meadows. After his parents escort him in the forest as well, his mother explains that hunters had arrived in the forest. Winter arrives and while Bambi and his mother are searching for food, a hunter arrives and Bambi's mother is killed. A heartbroken Bambi is then taken care of by his father.

Several years pass and Bambi becomes an adult, along with Thumper and Flower. Thumper and Flower fall in love with their female counterparts, leaving Bambi disgusted. However, he meets an adult Faline and instantly becomes infatuated with her. Bambi earns Faline's affections by defeating an older stag deer named Ronno. However, the hunters return to the forest and in the chaos that ensues, the forest is set on fire. Bambi attempts to protect Faline from hunting dogs, but is shot by a hunter. The Great Prince of the Forest gets Bambi to his feet and the two escape to safety along with the other animals until the fire ceases and the hunters leave. Bambi then marries Faline and takes over as protector of the forest.
